A young boy struggles with life in a boy´s home after his father is murdered, and the state declares his mother to be unfit. Daily life in the home forces him to learn how to live in a male hierarchy. He questions the disappearance of boys from the home, explained as runaways, finding more than he bargains for with the discovery of a group of men, led by the superintendent, who he believes are guilty of abuse and murder. Caught spying on them, he runs for his life, ending up on the streets of Seattle where a group of panhandlers, thieves, and prostitutes become his new family, handing him a new set of challenges. Uncertain if he can trust the police, he looks for a way to avenge the disappearance of his best friend, and bring the men to justice. At the same time, the men from the home are searching for him with their own form of justice in mind.

What readers are saying:

The story kept me eager and interested to "keep going" to see what was going to happen next! The 'variety' of events, places and characters were very interesting and exciting. If it were a movie, it would have the audience on the edge of their seats in fear (at times) and anticipation. I truly enjoyed it. - Gerry - Trenton, IL

Well, I finished the book last night. I enjoyed it! I loved the characters. I'm looking forward to the next one. -------Tracy-San Diego, CA
